Waves
On the beach the waves roll in
warm white sands keep feet dry
faces break out in silent grins
the sun rises and the seagull’s cry
Fishing boats bob up and down
cargo ships slide on by
thrum of engines the only sound
full steam ahead like Capt’n Bligh
a break in the surface where dolphins leap
moments of beauty pure and clean
people try to count like nighttime sheep
shore break rises until they can’t be seen
Day turns to night bringing chill to the air
moon and stars now reflect a polished glare.
