Behind the Pages

Villain, antagonist, whatever you want to be called…
We need to talk.
I know you’re having fun flitting about my mind, crouching in the corners and glaring out at anything and everything running around in there. I sometimes picture you as one of those tall, spindly types because you always seem to fold into yourself, leering from the shadows. But then when you ‘unfold’ to become seemingly twice as big, hovering over thoughts and memories like some sort of anti-angel.
And apparently you have wings? Totally cool with that, but I’m not sure if they’re supposed to be bat-like or feathered…or butterfly shimmering flight inducers? Make a choice and let me know.
Sometimes you’re humanesque and other times I don’t recognize what sort of mythical creature you intend to be. I mean, you’ve made it obvious you don’t desire to be a kitsune, yokai, tengu or dragon, but that doesn’t really narrow down the possibilities, y’know? Even a hint of a species would be nice. Hell, right now I’m not even sure you’re planning on following the Shinto mythology theme the rest of the cast are. Which is fine, I can totally work with that, but you’re traveling under the sea so maybe keep that in mind.
I’d like to think your eyes are a rather striking blue or green, but you can’t even let that detail slip, can you? The flashes of color I get are either scarlet or coal-black, if they’re not glowing with a creepy white vastness. Do you think you’re an over-powered anime protagonist? Maybe if you were part of a show you’d scream for several episodes before plundering some town or challenging Obsidian Dragonfly. You may be the hero of your own story but you’re not exactly the hero in mine.
Judging from the malice I feel at your mental touch, however, I’m pretty sure you’ve picked up that point.

Now, now, don’t you growl, hiding in the recesses of my imagination. I feel I have a decent point. I mean, Crescent Sun wasn’t this difficult by far. She knew damn well she wanted to be a terrifying nine-tail kitsune harboring shadow and time magic with sarcasm almost as sharp as her claws. It was obvious her desire was to become the ruler of her country.
Well…at least at first. Admittedly that plot point sort of blew out of proportion as now she wants to destroy every God and Goddess within the planes of existence to prove a point to her deceased mother but I mean that’s another story. Quite literally.
Pica…Well, Pica was different as well. She, too, resided within my mind for quite awhile, trying to decide exactly what background she wanted. I sensed a murderer, someone willing to set the world on fire for funsies.
At least at first, but as she traveled about my world-building and plot organization she became calmer, more willing to help others and much less likely to destroy anything. In the end, she ended up being a misunderstood antihero and not a villain at all, worming her way into several readers hearts as their favorite.
You, too, could be like that; beloved despite your darkness, adored despite your infamy.
If only you’d give me a species. Hell, even a name would be great.
I’d appreciate if you could think about some of the things I’ve said. I’m trying to be encouraging in your growth and when you’re ready, I’ll be here to listen.
Just let me know.
And a word of warning: try not to get caught up too much with the others in the process. They can be a bit rowdy.

Sincerely,
Your Future Author

P.S. – Yes, I know you don’t like Obsidian Dragonfly but that’s kind of the point. He’s the protagonist, after all.
P.S.S. – No, you can’t date his sister.
